National scene: Rizal objects
to ‘Tempo’ caricature

Jakarta: Golkar Party politician Rizal Mallarangeng has reported Tempo magazine to the Press Council for its portrayal of him and brothers Andi Mallarangeng and Zulkarnaen “Choel” Mallarangeng in a caricature where they are shown carrying money from the graft-ridden Hambalang sports center project.

“I am not involved in the Hambalang project,” Rizal said after meeting with Press Council member Agus Sudibyo.

Rizal added that he objected to the caricature that appears on the cover of the weekly magazine, Antara news agency reported.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Andi a suspect in the mega scandal and slapped a travel ban on him. Following the KPK’s announcement, Andi resigned from his positions as the youth and sports minister and secretary of the Democratic Party’s board of patrons.

The KPK has also slapped a travel ban on Choel, director of political consultant Fox Indonesia.

“The Press Council will study the case and facilitate a mediation between Tempo and Rizal,” Agus said.
